Nagarajan’s career over the years has led to focus in a wide range of areas such as safety and risk management, project management, Operation, training, HSE specialization in addition to business development. Have rendered services such as Hazard and Operability (HAZOP), Hazard Identification (HAZID), Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Safety Reviews, SIL (Safety Integrity Level) assessments, and conducted various Safety and Environmental Audits.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE • Hazard and Operability Study • Hazard Identification (HAZID) • Quantitative Risk Assessment • Implementation of OSHA Process Safety Management • RAM study • PHSER studies • Safety Reviews • F&G mapping • SIL (Safety Integrity Level) assessments • Safety & Environmental Audits • Other Process Hazard Analysis studies (Bow-Tie, FERA, EERA, OBRA, EPZ, Facility Siting)

Learning Outcomes:

Introduction to the concept of process safety in Industry and understanding the PHA (Process Hazard Analysis) and Risk Assessment, with further focus on understanding and application of HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) and QRA to real life problems.

A HAZOP is a Qualitative PHA technique, wherein a set of Guide words are used, to review the plant in a series of meetings, during which a multidisciplinary team methodically “brainstorms” the plant design. The Design & Operation of a system are systematically reviewed to identify the potential for accidental releases of hazardous material, or operability problems.

Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) is not just a tool to help you comply with regulations but we go beyond in making you understand the risk and provide effective risk mitigation measures for a complex systems/plant.

  • This training module aims to enhance the participants knowledge on estimation of types of consequences (Jet/Pool Fire, BLEVE, VCE, Dispersion etc) associated with handling & storage, transport as well
  • Frequency estimation and its significance in estimation of risk to own employees and public; Further how to evaluate the risk wisely against tolerable criteria
  • This course enables all the participants to conduct a quantitative risk assessment and relate the results into their design and operations in Oil and Gas and Process/Manufacturing industries

HAZOP Course Outline:

  • Basic Concepts- Hazard, Risk, Safety, Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
  • Introduction to PHA techniques
  • HAZOP prerequisites and HAZOP Components (Node, parameter, guidewords, deviation, Node identification and selection)
  • HAZOP – Cause and consequences, Risk Matrix, Risk Evaluation, Safeguard Alarms and Trips, – Identification and Validation
